on leaving your mark
Six-year-old me stood on a new boardwalk in Northern Michigan and looked down. Initials and names etched patterns into the wood, and I wondered why someone would ruin fresh boards, boards still smelling of new wood. I wished for a pen or a rock. I wanted my name...
pondering a fall
She'd just climbed up and in when it fell apart and down. The neighbor man made it for my mother-in-love and her sister when they were young. "The last girl to get married," he said, "gets to keep it." Mom gave the set to us shortly after our wedding. That bed's...
the sacrament of motherhood’s ecumenical moments
It's Sunday morning and we do not find ourselves filling a pew. Instead, I am home alone with the mighty seven. For once, not locking myself in the bathroom to find a moment of peace and quiet, but internally hushed with open eyes in the trenches. And finding...
serving others with hearts, glitter, and unicorns

A Message From Dan
What does it look like to live a Christian life? Like, TRULY live a Christian life? If I’m honest, I’m over the fake front of being a happy, blessed, and perfect person in order to impress others. Truth is, I’m a sinner who’s just trying to figure out how to do this without looking like an absolute fool. I think the Christian life is about admitting our brokenness, while raising our hand to say,”Here I am Lord! What would You have me do?” And that’s what this blog is all about… just a dude trying to do the best I can, and maybe hoping that you’re stumbling through the same journey. Maybe we can walk together.
