About Dan King

I am a 50-something husband and father of five (two bio and three adopted). I also run a digital marketing agency, helping bloggers/writers and small businesses tell their story online.

Raised in a Christian culture, I finally decided to get serious about my faith and what it means to be a Christian when I was in my late twenties.

I’m the author of The Unlikely Missionary: From Pew-Warmer to Poverty-Fighter, and co-author of Activist Faith: From Him and For Him. And I’ve contributed to several other books, such as Finding Church: Stories of Leaving, Switching, and Reforming, Making Space: Welcoming God’s Presence, and Soul Bare: Stories of Redemption. There are also more book projects on the way!

I’ve volunteered in several different ministries in the church, including youth, children, small groups, young adults, church financial board, outreach, and adult discipleship. I’ve also served as a teacher in various schools of ministry, teaching classes like basic Bible interpretation, homiletics (sermon prep), evangelism, and New Testament survey.

I’ve also been able to use my skills to work with several non-profits by helping them use digital media to tell their story. I’ve worked for several years as the Social Media Editor for The High Calling (now part of the Theology of Work Project). And I’ve also done work with orgs like Five Talents, The Idea CampHelp One Now, and World Help to help them leverage storytelling and social media to tell the stories of the incredible work they’re doing around the world.

Today, my biggest ministry is to my family, which has grown rapidly over the last several years through the adoption of local at-risk children. For many years, we’ve attended and served in a charismatic, non-denominational church, and have gone through a big shift to a liturgical worship denomination… I’m currently a Deacon and the Director of Family Ministries at St. Edward’s Episcopal Church in Mount Dora, FL.

About BibleDude.Life

The website started as a simple, personal blog. As I was teaching in the ministries I was involved in (particularly the young adults ministry), and learning through the theology classes I was taking, blogging was how I processed everything.

It wasn’t until I started blogging about poverty that things really started to take off around here. The poverty conversation just opened my eyes and many doors to think more about how the Church should be the Church outside of the church’s four walls.

Eventually, with the increasing popularity of group writing projects and guest bloggers we’ve hosted, we turned the site into a multi-author blog. We focused on the three main categories that have driven everything BibleDude has always been about… READ (focusing on the Scriptures), PRAY (focusing on our relationship with God), and SERVE (how we live out what it means to be a Christian). So these pages are filled with amazing stories from so many other talented writers.

We’ve since slowed it back down, and now I (Dan) am the sole blogger here again. And my primary focus is to continue to share the things that stir me as a believer and follower of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior.

What To Expect From BibleDude.Life

My writing focus has shifted a great deal to quality over quantity. So I’ll be sharing new posts just a few times each month. It will continue to focus on the stories of a dude in a church, just trying to make a difference in the world around him… one soul at a time. I’ll share anything from details of my studies in the Scriptures to the ways I’m working in my community and around the world. It’ll break down into these categories of writing:

The BibleDude.Life Mission

More than anything, my goal is to continue to work out my faith daily. In doing so, I will read, pray, and serve. And I will use this space to tell the stories and share what the Holy Spirit is stirring inside of me.

I’m not the kind of Christian who just settles for Sunday mornings. Following Christ requires 24/7 commitment. I don’t always get it 100% right, but I definitely keep trying.

My prayer is that what I do here will bless and encourage you in your faith. I also pray that it challenges you to examine your own walk and evaluate how you are living your life for Christ.

He has told you, O man, what is good;
And what does the Lord require of you
But to do justice, to love kindness,
And to walk humbly with your God?

— Micah 6:8 (NASB)
