I’ve thought a lot today about legacy.

We went to a service this morning in Kampala at a church plant started by some pretty special people. These young men and women were all former Children of the World choir members. Each of them participated in the World Help program touring the United States to help raise awareness and support for the fight against malnutrition and poverty.

I watched Noel Yeatts, VP of World Help, break down in tears over the result of many years of sowing into these young people. Today many are graduating high school and headed to college. Others have just completed vocational school to become cosmologists and nurses and lawyers. And another is even studying to be a brain surgeon, a rare commodity in Uganda.

In addition to their educational and professional success, these young men and women are on fire for God. Planting this church shows their passion for reaching their community for Christ, because of the great impact He has had on their lives.

Noel’s years of hard work and investing in these young lives is bearing great fruit!

And that’s what has me thinking about the legacy we leave here in Africa. We, the #AfricaWH blogger team, want to pass something on to the next generation. We want to pass something on that will continue to grow into something more than we could ever hope or imagine.

Why?

Because these kids are worth it. They are the next generation of nurses and cosmologists and brain surgeons and business leaders and pastors and the list goes on.

When I looked into the eyes of the children I played with today, I tried to image them growing up and being like the church planting young men and women from earlier in the day.

Without these homes at Destiny Villages of Hope, these children would likely be exposed to unimaginable circumstances. Children don’t need those kinds of odds stacked against them. What they need is a safe place to grow in wisdom and in stature. A place where they can get clean water and nourishment.

That’s what a Rescue Home does.

It’s a safe haven for the orphaned children  of Uganda. But now, Destiny Villages of Hope is maxed out with their current Rescue Homes. So more space is needed to allow them to take in more children, and change more lives.

Our team would love to see three new Rescue Homes built in Destiny Villages of Hope, just outside of Kampala. The project is split up into three buildings completed in three phases. The first phase is to complete a build which is actually fairly near completion. And, we’re now well on our way to reaching our goal for that phase!

Phases 2 and 3 will complete a second building only partly through construction, and a third building with only a foundation laid so far.

This is just a small taste of what God has ben stirring in our hearts so far on this trip. God is doing something here. He’s doing something exciting! I can see the great futures He has planned for these rescued children.
