book review: creative theology

Written by Mandy Thompson

She’s just a girl with a guitar. And, in a perfect world, Mandy would spend her days writing songs and soaking up the sun. But, life is life. And, while not perfect, her life is good. She serves as Director of Congregational Services at The Chapel, in Brunswick GA. If you asked her about her position, she’d say her main course involves developing worship experiences, with a side of creative design and social media for dessert. Tasty!

Creativity.

Artist.

Church.

Bible.

Creation.

Creator.

Throw all these words together in an explanatory fashion and I want to read what you have to say.

And this is exactly what Sam did.

And as I turned each page of Creative Theology, I found myself gaining a new insight into the relationship between all those words. And there was something else I experienced. Something unexpected… Something inspiring…

Creative Theology is more than a book. It’s more than a theology of Creator, creation, created, and creativity.

Creative Theology is a work of creative beauty in itself. Each page moves the reader to deeper thought and reflection. It is visually inspiring and leaves us with the desire to go and do and make and create.

And I think that is the heart of Sam’s message in Creative Theology. He places us, all of us, in the context of the post-fall creation. And he turns our eyes towards all that is still magnificent and beautiful about this creation. And he reminds us that we are to steward it well, and respond to it by using our own innate creativity to bring further restorative beauty into this world.

If you are looking for a piece of inspiration, reserve a copy of Sam Mahlstadt’s Creative Theology. And when you get your copy, interact with its pages and his words. Let them speak deeply into your heart and challenge you in your own creativity.

Shalom friends,
mandy
