beware: your kids may one day read the bible
I live with four women. And our dog is female too. This means we are a very verbal household. At any one point in the day, it is common to have three to four conversations directed at me simultaneously. Seriously. My mind freezes and I lock up. Many times I've...
winter reflections on bird feeders and the church…
We have this beautiful bird feeder which is three-quarters full of bird seed. Sounds great right? But there are barely any birds alighting on it these days. If they do they leave in a flurry of frustration with tiny empty stomachs. This is especially rough in these...
why you won’t catch me throwing in the towel
I was just talking with a friend of mine who told me that traffic is down on his blog, and he's considering throwing in the towel. I encouraged him to stick with it because I really believe his voice matters. I hope he sticks with it. But it got me thinking about how...
6 inspiring lessons of service from women in the bible
Here are a few of my favorite lessons on service from a few of my favorite ladies: 1. Servants go with their gut. Pharaoh’s daughter rescues Moses from the Nile River. She opened it and saw the baby. He was crying, and she felt sorry for him. “This is one of the...

Hitting @amazon right now (Kindle version, with print right behind it)!
This one combines my passions for technology, systems, and ministry all in one helpful resource.
There`s a lot of uncertainty with how AI fits in with churches, and this book should bring some clarity. If you`re curious about how new technologies can be used in church settings without losing your soul, then check this one out.
No hype. Just insight into how to build strong systems into your church ministry work.

Had a great time tonight talking about "Holy Rhythms for Hurting Hearts" tonight!
I was amazed at level of interest in the topics discussed in my little book of essays on mental health and ancient church practices. It seems like all of us relate to the struggle and are looking for peace.
And it appears that this book is a really great one for Lent... if you`re looking for a good read...

Just a little preview into my sermon tomorrow at @stedwardsepiscopal (8am and 10am).
This line just keeps hanging there in my heart.
Can`t wait to preach it!

Had a great time with our #EYCmountdora youth group tonight at our Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner!
Our youth serve so well, and I love how our church community supports them.
This has become one of my favorite ways to mark the shift into the season of Lent.

It`s just one of those top-open kind of days on the way home from church today.
Sun shining.
Cool temps.

By the end of the Blessing of the Stage, the floor is always covered in water - baptizing the space where these students will spend the next week telling stories.
Today we talked about truth-telling as sacred work. About how theater, at its best, reveals what`s real about being human. About how every role matters - on stage and backstage.
Grateful to be part of this tradition with Mount Dora High School`s Tempest Theater.

This might just be my new profile pic! LOL!
I made this as part of a white elephant gift for our youth group Christmas party, and I`m still laughing!
BTW... it looks amazing in a frame... I have a feeling we might see it hanging in our youth house at the church. 🤣

Yep, so my neighbor across the street went with the 6-7 decoration... 🫤

I`m working on a brand new Bible study called "I Will, With God`s Help", and I`d love your help shaping it.
This study takes a deep dive into what it really means to be a Christian, exploring who God is and how our faith becomes a lived way of life. Week 1 is ready, and before I move forward, I`d love honest feedback from people across different backgrounds and denominations.
I`m using a tool called Help This Book, where you can read the draft of Week 1 and leave comments, questions, or suggestions right inside the document. Your input will help me refine the study and make it as meaningful and accessible as possible.

A Message From Dan
What does it look like to live a Christian life? Like, TRULY live a Christian life? If I’m honest, I’m over the fake front of being a happy, blessed, and perfect person in order to impress others. Truth is, I’m a sinner who’s just trying to figure out how to do this without looking like an absolute fool. I think the Christian life is about admitting our brokenness, while raising our hand to say,”Here I am Lord! What would You have me do?” And that’s what this blog is all about… just a dude trying to do the best I can, and maybe hoping that you’re stumbling through the same journey. Maybe we can walk together.
