How do you know that what you’re talking about is something that others are interested in?

This is a question that I think the church needs to be more interested in. Too often we find ourselves quite illiterate when it comes to relating to others outside of the church.

Does that mean that we need to immerse ourselves in the secular to the point of forsaking the sacred? Absolutely not! But it is good for us to avoid retreating into our little Christian bubble at every opportunity to open our mouths. I don’t think that helps our evangelism efforts one bit.

That’s one of the reasons why I love doing this little exercise. It forces me to be a part of some conversations that I normally wouldn’t, and apply my Christian world view to them.

Even if I never have an actual conversation with someone about shibboleet or National Unfriend Day, going through the process of how to discuss these things is helpful no matter the topic of discussion that I find myself in.

If you’re a blogger, then consider letting yourself be stretched a little bit. You’ll grow as a blogger. I promise.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Pick a topic from the top 20 Hot Searches list at Google Trends.
  2. Write a post at your blog not to exceed 250 words (to be posted on Wednesday).
  3. Share the link to your post below using the Simply Linked widget.
  4. Leave a comment here about what you learned most from this challenge.

Even if you’re not a blogger, then check out the cool posts that others submit here. There should be some pretty interesting conversations brewing!
