It is raining outside. Again.

Don’t get me wrong… we need the rain, bad!

However, several times today, people told me to ‘stay dry.’ Has anyone ever told you that? What does that mean, really? Is it really that much better to stay dry?

playing-in-the-rainDon’t you ever want to just go out and play in the rain? You know…

Just run in the rain until you are soaked.

Jump in every puddle you can find.

Stand there looking up into the sky with your mouth wide open as you try to drink the rain.

When I was a kid, we looked forward to playing in the rain! And we were allowed to stay outside as long as it wasn’t thundering.

That’s where I learned that cool trick about counting the mississippi’s to see how far away the thunder and lightning were. And if it was far enough away, then I would negotiate with my parents to let me stay out there longer…

Then that’s when I learned to try to say ‘mississippi’ as fast as humanly possible so that I would have a better case because it was ‘so far’ away!

What about you?

Don’t you sometimes just want to go outside and play in the rain?

How do we get that back? How do we shake off all of the newly ingrained ideas that we have now that prevent us from being free like that?

Thoughts? And the only excuse that I’ll accept for not responding is that you were actually outside playing in the rain! 🙂

I dont know if we could EVER fully get that back, but, I think that if we just Slow ourselves down some..we can get it back somewhat. What i mean by that is, to learn to not take ourselves too seriously, realize that the Only Opinion that Truly Matters Is God's, and were his Happy Thought! So, if we learn ( and this is By NO MEANS easy at all! btw) to Operate out of Who we are In Christ,I think that we will find ourselves MUCH more willing and able to get back our Child- like Ability to not care what others think of us enough to be able to Play in the rain, and enjoy it all! 🙂

Mike… I saw your earlier comment show up in the spam filter for some reason, but this one made it through… just wanted to let you know…

I agree that it is kinda awkward now to do something like this, but this whole thing has made me think of the same question at a whole lot of different levels… the end result is that we need to let go and be more 'free' sometimes rather than simply going for the simple, safe response…

Society looks at you strange if you don’t act like an adult. Get out and enjoy the rain. Who cares!

I love it… and as I read this comment, it’s pouring outside here right now too! It’s been a long, busy week at work, and I just want to go play and let the rain wash my cares away…
