Each Sunday he shows up.  He stumbles in, unkempt and a little noisy.  Typically his daughters come with him.  (They love our children's ministry.)  He sits in the metal folding chairs in our little church plant startup meeting at our local VFW Bingo Hall.  Usually,...

when you’re worried about your appearance

I’m pretty sure my wedding dress is still in there--though I can’t be totally sure since I haven’t opened that box since the cleaners sealed it in 1971. They buried my husband’s grandmother in hers. If I passed on today, there’s not a chance they’d be able to...

the path to freedom

I sit in quiet and wait. Though I've been nagging God for answers and insight, He remains silent on a particular issue I keep bringing before Him. I'm puzzling over the questions I'm asking--are they the right ones?  Is my focus in the wrong place? Maybe. And some...

💔 You don't have to have it all together.

Sometimes the bravest thing we can do is admit we're not okay—and still show up.

God doesn't wait for us to be perfect. He meets us right in the middle of the chaos, the grief, the stress, the mess. That's where healing begins.

📖 This is one of the truths woven throughout my new book, Holy Rhythms for Hurting Hearts: Essays on Mental Health and Ancient Church Practices—now available on Amazon!

A Message From Dan

What does it look like to live a Christian life? Like, TRULY live a Christian life? If I’m honest, I’m over the fake front of being a happy, blessed, and perfect person in order to impress others. Truth is, I’m a sinner who’s just trying to figure out how to do this without looking like an absolute fool. I think the Christian life is about admitting our brokenness, while raising our hand to say,”Here I am Lord! What would You have me do?” And that’s what this blog is all about… just a dude trying to do the best I can, and maybe hoping that you’re stumbling through the same journey. Maybe we can walk together.
