greatness
What is greatness? In North American society we typically measure greatness with wealth, fame, Facebook friends or Twitter followers. Even in the church we usually measure greatness by the size of the congregation. However, Jesus had a different measure for greatness...
under the new sun with @smalltownpoets [part two]
We're talking with the Smalltown Poets again today focusing on creativity and how/where they see God. Part One of the interview is here. BibleDude: Tell us a little about your group's beginnings. Danny: Three of us (Michael, Danny, and Byron) grew up in a small town...

Something about this woman drew me to her. I wanted to be her friend and probably would have pursued that friendship if I ever had a chance. Though I never knew her, she taught me a pivotal spiritual lesson—a Bible-reading lesson. I wish I knew her name. If she were...
afraid of the rain
Oh, LORD, I'm afraid of when the rain comes! I spent my lunch break on the patio behind the university administration building where I work, looking across the quad toward Mt. Saint Helens. I've lived in the Pacific Northwest for just over two months. They've been...

Had a GREAT Youth Sunday! #EYCmountdora took over both services today, and they served SO well!
I`m incredibly proud of them. And one of my favorite things in life right now is having a front row seat to watching what God is doing in their lives.
Their heart to BE the Church is inspiring.
What`s even better than their desire to serve is their hunger to dig deep into the Word. And they are letting it truly shape their lives.
And how do you wrap up a day like this? With @scoopson5th, of course!

I think I figured out why these teens like me... it might be because I bring them food. If it`s not popcorn chicken, then it`s @pizzamoremountdora deliciousness.
And I love hearing everyone call my son by his nickname of "Nugget," because "Rev Dan brings the nuggets."
It`s been really cool having the opportunity to be there and minister to these kids in the Mount Dora High School theater program. They are truly a talented and dedicated group.
And I`m grateful for the support I get for this from @stedwardsepiscopal, a church that`s serious about having an impact in our community.

It`s a beautiful day to be outside and working in the yard.
Trimmed back some palm trees, resetting the flower beds, and watching the birds nesting.
And some of the bromiliads under one of my oak trees are in full bloom! 😍
It can be exhausting maintaining this yard, but there is so much beauty to behold.
And I can feel the rhythms of God`s Creation in this place.
I wish I was a better gardener, and that it had more time (and money) to invest in it. Maybe some day.
Regardless, I`m grateful for what I have. And I`ll always appreciate the opportunity to experience God in this sacred place.

Had the honor of serving today at the NW Deanery (@cfdiocese) meeting for the Order of the Daughters of the King.
The coolest part was that I got to be the keynote speaker for the meeting, talking on the topic of my book "Holy Rhythms for Hurting Hearts" (available on Amazon.com).
We heard from someone from InterVarsity share how Gen Z (the lonely generation) is dealing anxiety at a high level. And during the Eucharist, Fr. Mark`s sermon focused on hope and the various place we try to find it.
When I had the opportunity to share about how ancient church rhythms bring healing and hope into our stresses and anxieties, it felt like we were ready to dive deep into that conversation.
My favorite line... "When we come to the Table with all of our junk, He meets us there. Our brokenness meets the broken bread."
I`ll be speaking again at the Diocese DoK retreat coming up on May 2nd. And I`m really looking forward to sharing more on this important conversation.

Had another "Blessing of the Stage" event with the theater crew at MDHS today, and it`s ALWAYS a beautiful time of prayer, blessing, and gratitude.
I shared with them how in these days after Easter Sunday, we remember the day that Joy burst into the world in a new way. And in their upcoming performance, a musical comedy called The Drowsey Chaperone, they deliver joy to their audience... and that`s sacred work!
They always inspire me with their love and respect and gratitude towards one another. The community of that stage is something they`ll always share, and I encouraged them to hold it close to their hearts because it is special.
One of my favorite things to see in all of this is that in the process of sprinkling each other with water as each of then shares a blessing over the others, the stage itself gets soaked... baptized in a way with their prayers and blessings.
Simply beautiful.
And Holy.
Amen.

Had a beautiful Stations of the Cross Youth Prayer Experience and worship night at @stedwardsepiscopal.
This version of the Stations hits a very real and relatable perspective the youth can relate to. And then we finish with a little acoustic worship sitting around in front of the altar.
It`s always beautiful walking the Way of Jesus and spending time on Good Friday remembering and thanking Him for His redemptive sacrifice on the Cross.

"The relationship holds, even when the feeling doesn`t. When everything else is stripped away, there`s still `my God.`"
This Good Friday, I had the privilege of reflecting on the fourth word of "The Seven Last Words" of Jesus from the cross — "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" at @stedwardsepiscopal.
If you`ve ever cried out to a God you couldn`t feel, you`re in good company. Jesus knows that place. He went there first.

Most churches I talk to assume AI tools are either too expensive or too complicated to be worth the effort.
But here`s what I`ve found: you can get a church running on a genuinely powerful AI stack -- Claude for sermon prep and communication, NotebookLM for repurposing content, OpusClip for turning sermons into social clips, and Canva Pro for graphics -- for about $31/month. And two of those four tools are completely free for nonprofits.
I wrote the book on this (literally -- AI Systems for Churches is on Amazon now), and this post breaks down the exact stack I`d recommend for any church that wants to do more without burning out the people doing it.

You don`t need all the answers. You don`t need to see the whole road.
You just need enough light for the next step.
That`s what grace looks like. And that`s what Holy Rhythms for Hurting Hearts is all about -- ancient rhythms that carry you forward, one sacred step at a time.

A Message From Dan
What does it look like to live a Christian life? Like, TRULY live a Christian life? If I’m honest, I’m over the fake front of being a happy, blessed, and perfect person in order to impress others. Truth is, I’m a sinner who’s just trying to figure out how to do this without looking like an absolute fool. I think the Christian life is about admitting our brokenness, while raising our hand to say,”Here I am Lord! What would You have me do?” And that’s what this blog is all about… just a dude trying to do the best I can, and maybe hoping that you’re stumbling through the same journey. Maybe we can walk together.
Rev. Dan King
speaker. author. blogger.
